GELibility Part I | Introduction

Hey all! This post will be in English as well as in Dutch. Today I have something special on the blog. If you have ever ventured or want to venture into the world of gel polish, I know one thing: it costs money. And a lot of it. Your nail polish collection will be useless, really. Well, if you are like me, you want to use those pretty indie polishes and glitters. And how cool would it be if you could turn your nail polish into actual gel polish? Think about all the money you won't spend on gel polish (and can spend on nail polish, duh).

Hey iedereen! Deze post schrijf ik zowel in het Engels als in het Nederlands (hoera!). Vandaag heb ik iets speciaal voor jullie. Als je ooit de wereld van gel polish wil binnenstappen, kan ik je één ding vertellen: het kost geld. Heel erg veel geld. En je nagellakcollectie is onbruikbaar, tja. Wel, ben je zoals mij, dan wil je natuurlijk die mooie indie polishes en glitters gebruiken. En hoe leuk zou het zijn als je je gewone nagellak kunt omtoveren in gel polish? Denk aan al dat geld dat je nu niet aan gel polish moet spenderen (en dus lekker aan gewone nagellak kan uitgeven, duh).


What is GELibility?
GELibility is a make-it-yourself gel polish. You can use any of your pretty nail polishes and mix it with GELibility to create your own custom gel colors. It cures in a UV or LED lamp and has the long-lasting wear of a regular gel polish. First you apply the Stick it!, then you apply you Fix it! and regular polish mixture and to finish it, apply a thin coat of Fix it! and you are done! More details will be in my next post.

Wat is GELibility?
GELibility is een clear gel die je kunt mixen met je gewone nagellak. Hierdoor kun je elke kleur van je collectie omtoveren tot een unieke gel polish. Het hardt uit onder een UV of LED lamp en het houdt net zoals een gewone gel polish. Eerst lak je een laagje Stick it!, daarna je Fix it! en gewone nagellak-mixje en om alles mooi af te werken doe je nog een dunne laag Fix it! en klaar! Meer details vertel ik in mijn volgende blogpost.

This blogpost is more of a first impression and a test. I still have to experiment with the products so I can mix them at the right ratios (50/50). This is especially important when working with holographic polishes, as you can see above. However, Gosh Holographic Hero is not a very strong holo, so it will be hard to keep the holo anyway. I also tested Cadillacquer Have a Killer Day (indie polish, glitter), China Glaze Flip Flop Fantasy (neon) and Essie Status Symbol (cream).

You can see that the colours are still pretty much the same, but smoother. Because of the GELibility, the colours diluted, so you have to apply more coats than you would normally do.

Deze review is meer een eerste indruk en test. Ik moet nog wat experimenteren met de producten zodat ik de verhoudingen perfect (50/50) krijg. Dit is zeker belangrijk wanneer je holografische nagellak wilt gebruiken, zoals je in de foto hierboven kunt zien. Gosh Holographic Hero is niet echt een sterke holo, dus het zal sowieso moeilijk zijn om het holo-effect te behouden. Ik testte ook Cadillacquer Have a Killer Day (indie nagellak, glitter), China Glaze (Flip Flop Fantasy (neon) en Essie Status Symbol (creme).

Je ziet dat de kleuren nog steeds hetzelfde zijn. Maar door de GELibility die je toevoegt aan je nagellak, verdunt de kleur natuurlijk een beetje. Dit los je eenvoudig op door meer laagjes aan te brengen dan je normaal zou doen.
